A special treasure awaits you in the picturesque old town of Müllheim: The Markgräfler Museum in the Blankenhorn-Palais is the most important regional museum between Freiburg and Basel. Over 1500 square meters of exciting art, literature, archeology and history can be discovered, including a wine cellar equipped with old cellarman gadget. In the noble city palace with early classical facade, Professor Adolph Blankenhorn, wine pioneer and founding president of the German winegrowers' association, celebrated his glittering wedding party.
And that inevitably leads us to the main topic in and around Müllheim, the viticulture. With over 500 hectares of vineyards Müllheim is the wine capital in Markgräflerland and seventh largest wine-growing municipality in Baden-Württemberg. Since 1872, the vintage - currently 350 wines and sparkling wines - is tasted at the oldest Baden wine market at the end of April.
Wherever wine is grown, emphasis is also placed on good food. Whether hearty good traditional fare cooking, solid bourgeois culture or haute cuisine - the culinary delights of the Markgräflerland are extremely varied.
