Black Forest, Baden-Wuerttemberg
Even from a distance its former greatness and defensiveness can be seen: The medieval Hohennagold castle ruin towers 530 metres above sea level and is one of the largest and most beautiful ruins in the country. Around 500 BC the Celts built a princely seat here.
Today the castle ruin on the Palace square is a popular destination for excursions. In addition to magnificent views of the city, the view extends to the Swabian Alb and far into the Black Forest in good weather. Several times a year the castle is transformed into a fairytale paradise, a medieval setting or a live stage in the midst of beautiful nature.
The city centre of Nagold is also worth experiencing: lovingly restored half-timbered houses, the church tower without a nave or Nagold's oldest building, the Steinhaus, tell exciting city history. Attractive shops, small alleys and a varied gastronomy make a stroll through the town worthwhile.
