Magical: Eltz Castle
With its unique location in the heart of the wild natural scenery of the Elzbach valley and its fascinating architecture, Eltz Castle is the embodiment of a knight's castle. Eltz Castle has been owned by the family of the same name for more than 850 years. Thanks to expert diplomacy it has managed to escape destruction during wars and times of conflict.
The flair of the "fairytale castle" is reflected in the high residential towers, oriels and spires, as well as in the interior rooms of the complex: the living rooms and bedrooms, armoury and knights' hall, as well as the hunting room and kitchen enable you to immerse yourself in medieval life. The castle's basement vaults are home to one of the most important private treasure chambers - an acclaimed collection of gold and silversmith works, as well as jewellery, porcelain, guns and armour.
Information for your visit:
Eltz Castle is open from April 1st until 1st November inclusive.
Visits and guided tours are possible every day from 9:30am until 5:30pm.
The tours, with expert guidance, start every 10 to 15 minutes and take approx. 40 minutes. Guided tours are available for groups in English, French and Dutch on request. Special guided tours are also available for kindergarten and school groups. Two self-service restaurants invite guests to relax and enjoy themselves.
How to find Eltz Castle:
Arriving via Wierschem, you reach the bus and car park which is approx. 800 meters from Eltz Castle, from where a shuttle bus goes to the castle and back.
Our tip: from the car park, a path leads to the castle through the woodland. This path is approx. 1.3 kilometres long and is signposted at the car park and easy to negotiate. It promises glorious nature and a view of Eltz Castle that is sure to enthuse you!
Use the castles bus to explore the Maifeld and its castles starting from the Mosel valley. An idea for your next walk? Incidentally, "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail 2013" the Eltz Castle panorama dream path, also leads to Eltz Castle!
