Of course in Karlsruhe everything revolves around the castle in the centre of the city. It owes its unique cityscape as a so called "Fächerstadt " to the builder Margrave Karl Wilhelm. The geometric centre of the castle complex, built in 1715, is a free-standing, 51-metre-high tower from which 32 streets and paths fan out - like the rays of the sun.
Today, the “Badisches Landesmuseum” presents its collections, which are important worldwide and document more than 50,000 years of international cultural history. The collections comprise art and historical life worlds from prehistory and early history through ancient cultures, the Middle Ages and the Baroque period to the 21st century.
The ZKM, the Centre for Art and Media, is exceptional and one of the world's top 5 museums. In the unique atmosphere of a former ammunition factory, the world's first interactive museum invites visitors to join in and be amazed. Absolutely recommendable for young and old!
There are even more reasons to visit Karlsruhe. But one of them is certainly also the pleasure of enjoying the culinary delights of the Baden cuisine and wines.
