Welcome to Kirchheimbolanden, the Kleine Residenz

Kibo - charming, historic, close to nature

Just stroll through the old town. Let the half-timbered work on you here and there, have a coffee in between and then devote yourself to the impressive city fortifications. Kirchheimbolanden is the city in the north of the Palatinate that not only people interested in culture fall in love with. The charming town of "Kibo" enchants with a medieval town center peppered with baroque gems. The city wall from the 14th century is one of the best preserved medieval city fortifications in the region. Restoration work began in the 1970s. Since then, part of the battlement has been accessible. From up here you have a great view of the Donnersberger Land - there is no entrance fee. Access to the battlement is at the Gray Tower, the city's guardian. The corridor extends to the Vorstadtturm, which is considered the most prominent tower in the city and through which Langstrasse runs. The Red Tower almost had to give way to a road 100 years ago. Luckily, the cornerstone of the city wall still stands today. The Stadthaus tower with its baroque cap builds a bridge to another important epoch of the city. Kirchheimbolanden was the residence of the princes of Nassau-Weilburg in the Baroque period. The ruling family was influential and they wanted to build. Baroque residential buildings can be seen, for example, on Amtsstrasse and cavalier houses on Neue Allee. The Paulskirche is also worth seeing. There is the baroque organ that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played on in 1778 when he was visiting the princes. A total of 40 cultural monuments can be discovered in the "Small Residence", as Kirchheimbolanden is still called. The city also has no shortage of green retreats. You can take a relaxing stroll in the castle garden to the east of the castle, which is now a retirement home. The castle garden was created at the end of the 19th century in the style of an English landscape park with many exotic trees. If you are traveling with children, you will also find a simple but beautiful, natural playground in the castle park.

One more tip for a short walk: West of the old town of Kirchheimbolanden you can find the park "Schillerhain" on a hill. Three listed towers are not far from each other here: the water tower, the watchtower and the snail tower. From the latter two you have another beautiful view of Kibo, the forest and the hilly landscape.

The "Small Residence" is a worthwhile destination at any time of the year.
