Salzgittersee

Rivers and lakes

Parkplatz Wakepark, 38228 Salzgitter

Whether for (water) sports enthusiasts or those seeking relaxation, gastronomy lovers or sun worshippers. From strolling to diving, there is something for everyone here.

Listen now!

Welcome to the Salzgittersee recreational area

Salzgittersee is not only considered the water sports centre of south-east Lower Saxony, its excellent water quality and large network of lakeshores and side paths also make it an inviting place for (sun)bathing or walking.

1. Water ski facility

The water ski cableway offers a special kind of recreational pleasure. Without much preparation and suitable for almost all age groups, this sport can be learned very quickly.

2. Other water sports and boat hire

Boat rental of canoes, kayaks, pedal boats and all related equipment such as paddles, life jackets and other safety equipment. This makes a tour on Lake Salzgitter an unforgettable experience. Equipment for stand-up paddling can also be hired.

3. Catering facilities

Whether you want to enjoy the panoramic view over the lake from the terrace of Café del Lago in the north, the sunset atmosphere on the beach at JIM's Beach Bar in the east, the maritime flair at the boat harbour from the balcony of the lakeside terrace in the south, or the sporting hustle and bustle directly from the platform of the waterskiing facility in the west - you will get your money's worth, depending on your taste. Individual events are also possible in the Joons event restaurant.

4. Pirate playground

The most attractive playground in the region is a very special experience for little adventurers. Numerous climbing and sliding possibilities can be discovered. For younger children, sand and water play equipment and a toddler slide are available. A natural stream and a sand and mud area with bubbling and spring stones complete the 4,500 sqm area.

5. Disc golf course on the island

Disc golf is similar to traditional golf, except that a disc is thrown into a basket. The aim is to complete a course with as few throws as possible. The course on the island offers 12 throwing stations with course lengths of 65 - 140 metres. The course is also suitable for newcomers and can be used free of charge. Discs are available for a fee of 1 euro per disc (plus 10 euro deposit) at the water ski facility or in the ice sports hall. A scorecard including a course overview will be handed out.

6. Municipal swimming pool

The sports and family pool invites you to a refreshing visit all year round. The leisure and toddler area offers bathing fun for the whole family. If you want to swim your laps quickly, the pool is the right place for you. The terrace and lawn outside are perfect for relaxing in fine weather.

Visitors can enjoy the following facilities: Toddler area, attraction pool, multifunctional pool, 25-metre swimming pool, 100-metre tube slide and bistro.

7. Ice rink

The ice rink at Salzgittersee was opened in 1978 and offers an ice surface of 1,800 square metres. While ice skating, ice hockey and curling are more on the programme in winter, the multifunctional arena is the venue for music and sporting events as well as trade fairs in summer.

8. Events

Every year, 60 to 70 seasonal events and activities take place at Salzgittersee, attracting up to several tens of thousands of visitors to the lake. Current dates are announced on the municipal website and in the events calendar.

9. Motorhome site

20 parking spaces directly on the water and close to the city centre. These factors are particularly appreciated by visitors. They are offered a wide range of sports and leisure activities all year round. Guests have access to attractive pitches (5 euros/day), a supply and disposal station (100l fresh water for 2 euros) and electricity connections (six hours 1 euro). The special campsite is easily accessible via the A39, exit Salzgitter-Lebenstedt-Süd / Salzgitter-Salder (19).

10. Dragon Boat Cup

"ARE YOU READY? - ATTENTION! - GO!" Is the battle cry of one of the best-known events at Salzgittersee. The Dragon Boat Cup takes place annually on the penultimate weekend before the summer holidays and offers entertainment for young and old. Both participants and visitors get their money's worth here.
