Black Forest, Baden-Wuerttemberg
If you think about a curly pig's tail at the Sauschwänzlebahn, you are right. However, conclusions about the means of transport cannot be drawn from this. No, the Sauschwänzlebahn describes the unusual, over 25 km long route of the nostalgic steam and diesel train ride. The tracks wriggle their way through the densely wooded nature of the southern Black Forest, crossing valleys over stately bridges and crossing six tunnels.
One of them has it all: In the spiral tunnel "Große Stockhalde", the train runs in a circle, so to speak, and overcomes 15 vertical meters. The tunnel course thus conforms of a spiral and remembers as a whole, to a curled pig tail. So the Sauschwänzlebahn got its name in excellent dialect!
In addition to the very varied hiking trails in this region, the premium hiking trail and the Black Forest gourmet trail "Sauschwänzleweg" make a perfect connection to the historic train experience. First hiking, then resting and enjoy nature!
