Welcome to Erbeskopf

The Erbeskopf in Hunsrück is the highest elevation in Rhineland-Palatinate at 816 metres. It is located in the municipality of Thalfang am Erbeskopf and belongs to Hilscheid.
The sculpture "Windklang" by the sculptor Christoph Mancke, which can be accessed as a viewing platform, is enthroned on its summit. It impressively stages the interplay of nature and the elements. Like a large, wooden harp, its core is made of tons of steel. From its footbridge, you have impressive long-distance views over the Hunsrück landscape and the Moselle valley far into the Eifel.
Situated both on the 10th stage of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig premium long-distance hiking trail and on the Gipfelrauschen dream loop, the Erbeskopf is a worthwhile destination for hikers. The dream loop leads along narrow forest paths and short forest trails from the highest elevation into the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. On the almost eight-kilometre-long round tour, you can experience the whole spectrum of natural features of this landscape conservation area.
In addition to the varied hiking trails and the viewing platform, the Erbeskopf recreation area offers an adventure area with a forest playground, a 1,345-metre-long summer toboggan run from spring to autumn, a forest ropes course with five courses of varying degrees of difficulty and a flying fox course, a trail park for mountain bikers with five different trails and the Erbeskopf National Park with the interactive exhibition "Welcome to the primeval forest of tomorrow".
In winter, too, many are drawn to the highest mountain in Rhineland-Palatinate. Alpine skiing is possible on up to three downhill slopes at the Erbeskopf winter sports centre. A fully automatic snow-making system also produces enough snow for the slopes when temperatures are cold. If enough snow has fallen, cross-country ski trails can also be groomed. Ski and snowboard rental, a ski and snowboard school and gastronomy are also on site.
