Opening hours not available
Please note:
Due to renovation work, the memorial will be closed on 1, 3 and 4 August and from 8 - 11 August. On weekends it will be open regularly.
The memorial site of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate commemorates crimes committed between 1939 and 1945 in the SS special camp/ concentration camp Hinzert.
A permanent exhibition documents this period. In keeping with the European significance of the former concentration camp, visitors to the Documentation and Meeting House can learn about the history of the camp and its special function in the National Socialist concentration camp system, as well as about victims and perpetrators, via an audio guide system in German, English, French and Dutch.
The centerpiece of the memorial is the Chapel of Atonement, the memorial to former prisoner Lucien Wercollier, and the "Cemetery of Honor" established by the French military government in 1946.
Information boards at the memorial cemetery and at various "sites of inhumanity" in the surrounding woods point out memorial stones, former mass graves, execution sites, and forced labor sites of the SS Special Camp / Concentration Camp Hinzert.
Dogs are allowed on a leash on the grounds and in the docu-center.
