Half-timbered houses, Lessing and Jägermeister. These three are outstanding and characteristic for Wolfenbüttel. Half-timbering defines our townscape: with around 1000 half-timbered houses, you have a lot to discover here. Lessing lived here for 11 years and you can still visit some of the places where he worked. And the famous herbal liqueur? That comes from Wolfenbüttel. Always has been, and still is. That's what it says on every bottle, by the way.
Of course, Wolfenbüttel is much more than that. Over 900 years of town history are waiting to be discovered. Join a guided tour of the town, experience baroque history in the Schloss Museum, follow in the footsteps of famous Wolfenbüttel citizens in the Bürger Museum.
If you fancy a change from half-timbered houses and culture, the former ramparts and the River Oker invite you to explore Wolfenbüttel's green lungs on foot, by bike or from the water.
Wolfenbüttel is an award-winning KinderFerienLand location from the state of Lower Saxony. But what can you do in Wolfenbüttel with children? The museums offer great things to do, from free audio guides for children in the Schloss Museum to special museums designed especially for children and young people. In addition, there is plenty of space to romp around on numerous playgrounds, on the Löwe nature adventure trail or in the Okeraue municipal pool and at the natural bathing lake.
We report on other experiences in the Lessing city, culture, shopping and hospitality on our blog: www.echtlessig.de.
